Great one board quiver. Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. So much that I bought a Jones Flagship to charge harder. On Snow Feel: The personality of the board never changes from powder to ice or from peak to jib park. Just some very minor tweaks. I thought about trying the 153 but the max stance width is 22.1 so I couldnt even get to my minimum 22.5 stance width for that board. Our Recommended Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Force, Union Contact, Union Contact Pro, Burton Cartel, Burton Genesis, Burton Mission, Salomon Hologram, Now Pilot, Arbor Cypress. Powder: The extra camber (almost all camber) and centered stance detract from its float from last year. Capita Mercury vs. For me at size 9 boots the 153 would be a great call but the 156 fits my weight better. The YES Standard does this better than most all-mountain boards because of this setback and the reduced volume in the tail. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. It adopted the Middle Bite tech from the Yes Jackpot, got a blunt nose/tail, changed the waist width sizing and considerably narrowed the reference stance. GST closed down. 15 front -15 back. James, Jimbo, Peter, Kyle, Stephen, Mary, Lee and a few other friends not on the site. There is a lot more to this review here: https://thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/jones-mountain-twin-2011-2019-snowboard-review/https://thegoodride.com/sno. This is no freeride board built for speed but its very good for its shape and riding style. JavaScript is disabled. Switch: So you think it would be noticeable with the different shaped nose/tail but its barely noticeable with the Yes Standard riding fakie. If you size this correctly for your boots it is medium to medium quick. Sizing: The sweet spot on the 156 seems like its closer to a size 10-11 boot. You can get almost 4.5 back on board if you can use the slam back inserts at a 23 stance width on the 156. It can even do pretty well in ice if you have to ride it. This is much better for intermediate riders or for those more advanced/expert riders that want a more forgiving ride. That is the price you pay for being so forgiving a ride. Its a shade less forgiving than the older model but still a great time. So there are lots of changes to the 2021 Jones Mountain Twin but the main take away is more pop and a board that turns a little faster. Edge Hold: We like the mellow magnetraction that comes with the Jones Snowboards. The 162 and 167 like that 12+ rider. Set Up: about 23 one day and closer to 22.75 on others. Jibbing: Not a jib board and I wouldnt like to do anything other than a forgiving easy box. I would disagree with the 7 out of 10 flex and say it feels a little more on the medium side instead of med/stiff. If you keep the edges sharp the Mountain Twin would be a great dedicated pipe board. So if you want to use the slam back inserts a 21.5 stance width is whats required. It can still lay it out in all conditions but if this is important to you look for another board. The sixth insert in each set is set back further than the rest so if your reference stance matches the corresponding sizes reference stance you can still get some set back going on like an all mountain board. It is ahead of disrupted sidecuts like from Arbor and Jones or mellow mag from Lib-Tech/Gnu. The 2013 Base is one of the fastest bases we came across and if well waxed can glide through almost any extended flat area without issue. Despite all the changes it still defines what we call a one board quiver/all mountain board. It just saysyeahokIm in. Uneven Terrain: Not bad here for such a stiff flex. Here are the differences: So the changes that made to the Standard this year give it more of an aggressive all mountain freestyle flavor this year than before. Speed:There is a bit of improvement when it comes to speed and the nose/tail doesnt chatter as much as it use to from 2013 and even 2014. Not too stiff and not too soft. impetigo pictures in toddlers; canadian university dubai; yes standard vs jones mountain twin; December 2, 2021 ; art activities for toddlers in childcare; kiehl's midnight recovery oil ingredients . Pair this with a good shock absorbent binding and its going to be pretty good on the joints. It is only a little bit behind Underbite and full Magnetraction from Lib-Tech/Gnu. Size:158 and 156 It needs a pretty responsive binding and boot to start to respond and many of us have felt it a little slow in the trees. Turn Ons/Swipe Right: Buttery & Forgiving. It has a nice rubbery but not a noodely pop to it that gives it a pretty playful feel. Get this if you want something more buttery, forgiving and more playful. Hopefully I will ride this board more in the winter and find out how well if floats or doesnt float. The YES Standard is lacking pop and a satisfying turning experience but is a buttery, forgiving, grippy and good floating ride. Set Up:22.5 Centered 12 front -12 back, Similar Boards (but not the same) That We Compared This To:Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Loaded Algernon, Capita Mercury, YES Ghost, YES Not So Basic Globe. Set-Up: 21, 21.5 Wide. Near Excellent Edge Hold. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. Approximate Weight: The stiffness was right between the burton and the capita but it wasn't as stiff as I expected it to be based on the websites 7/10 rating. Very very stoked with this board. Carving: Very fun to carve and this mostly camber board really makes for good lay it out springy carving turns. Jibs Probably one of the only areas where it doesnt do very well. Its one of those boards that can wear many hats on the mountain. yes standard vs jones mountain twinsouthwest cargo phone number. It doesnt have that snap back when its bent like many good hybrid rocker boards but its still a great butter board. Never Summer Hammer or Shaper Twin, dont buy some overseas junk. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Its not as hard to butter as you would think but you do have to put a little more strength into it. On Snow Feel: Stable to even semi catchy. You know meBiestythe guy who writes all this shit. The Jones Frontier is a highly capable board that feels incredibly stable mid-turn and offers an average degree of edge hold. Pant: Burton AK Gore-Tex Pro 3L Hover Pant, Burton AK Gore-Tex 2L Swash Pant, Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant Close to Reference and Set all the way back. I love it, it's a fun, playful and forgiving board. The Yes Standard is one of those boards that is aggressive harder charging ride but still doesnt quite have the consequence that camber does. Its no powder specialist but like any good all-mountain board its competent almost anywhere and powder is no exception. that make it a little different than the 2015. On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. **, Size:156 Still this does a good job with most small to medium rails and makes for a good board if you occasionally like to hit the jib park. yes standard vs jones mountain twin . You always compromise when choosing one board for everything but this is one of the best one board solutions we have come across. If you do you get a 3.5 difference between nose and tail or a 1.75 set back from the center of the board. Then it gets a bump width-wise at 156-159 and it makes it a great board for those 10-12 boots. There isnt a ton of camber underfoot but there is enough to give you some spring out of the turn. May 23, 2021 . Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. Size: 156 Flex/Buttering: The Yes Standard has a flex that is softer than what YES says so its easier on snow than you would think to butter. I'm really wanting one board . 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. It increases edge hold and improves turn initiation for a board of a wider width underfoot. Because of the set back stance it wont be as easy as the older models but its still pretty close. It butters more like a mellow park board which is great for some and a surprise for me coming off off of the Globe Traditionalist or boards like Yes Basic Uninc or Typo. Flex: Pretty stiff but still lively and dynamic. I also tested it against the Jones Mountain Twin, Ultra Mountain Twin, 2017 Yes Standard, Oz Custom Woody and a few other All Mountain boards like the Yes Libre. The base has good glide too. The Jones Mountain Twin has a medium flex between the bindings with a little softer flex in the nose. Uneven Terrain: For someone like me with size 9 boots on a 156 this sucked turning through bumps. Do you want magnetraction? Jumps: There is good pop and we found it pretty easy to generate our own air. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight). Flex:This year the flex is a little bit more stiff in the tip and tail but it seems about the same in the middle. Its got one of those types of rides that keeps its stable aggressive personality in all types of conditions and never changes on you. On top of that there is early rise in the nose/tail and the mellow spoon tech helps this board roll easier into a turn in powder. Jones Storm Wolf Snowboard 2024. No problem in powder. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-195lbs), Jimbo (Size 11, 511 160lbs), Zobel (Size 11.5, 6 180lbs, Peter (Size 8, 511 185lbs) Helmet: Smith Maze, Smith Vantage So what Im saying is it butters really well and the nose/tail with that rocker flex easier than you would think on snow than when you flex it in the shop. It eliminated the loose feel you can have with the older Jones All Mountain Twin. Conditions: Pretty good mid-winter PNW conditions. Jumps: It pops really well on snow for an ollie and it also can launch off kickers of any size. Boots: Burton Fiend LTD Press J to jump to the feed. How This Review Happened: We borrowed this for an extended demo, sent it back but then liked it so much I bought itand I bought the split for some me time in the spring when the reviews are over. Yes Standard 2022 versions. Home Snowboard Reviews Jones Mountain Twin 2011-2023 Snowboard Review. Its got a nice wide platform underfoot that is stable for take-offsand landings. Didn't get to try it in pow because of COVID can't wait till I do next year. With a centered stance the Jones can act like a great all mountain freestyle board. Basically this board is very versatile. This is a great board for hard to icy snow. The Jones isnt a chunder buster but its pretty good passing through a tracked out snow line without getting messy or bucking you. It's a middle of the road park board flex. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded, 157: 9-10 Width over inserts. Stance 23 in wide 12 -12 centered. its a ride that allows you to get a camber feel that allows you to go big with less consequence and floats better in powder. Id go for the typo. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts, Yes Typo/Lib-Tech Orca/Capita Black Snowboard of Death. You add all this rocker and the tail with less surface area you get a little bit of that tapered feel in powder that freeride boards have. Conditions:Pretty much everything from 2+ feet of powder to ice. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. It feels solid in any steeps and ice I've put it through. The stance this year is centered where last year it had a -10mm set back. Pipe: We have ridden a lot of pipe with the Jones Mountain Twin and like it. Powder: So if you need full-size disc bindings like from NOW, Jones, Burton Re:Flex, Some Union Bindings like the Atlas and Force and others to make this work on the slamback inserts for setting it back in powder. So when set all the way back with an approximately 22.75 stance widthIm 3.5 back on board which is pretty far. Days: 1 The lowest score was 70.7/100. That is really good directional float for an all-mountain board. 5 is the reference stance now. Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, F.I.T. On Snow Feel: Very aggressive and all about bombing the hill regular or switch. Hitting kickers is very predictable and stable. Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles, F.I.T. More feedback from the core would make it a more fun ride. Sounds like mountain twin is the way to go. Size: 157 We dont feel its a 7 out of 10 but more like a 5 out of 10. 2012 and 2011 Jones All Mountain Twin Review. If you know how to turn its quick. Tbh the extra price might be worth it for the performance, and I mean you wont need another snowboard for a while after that. The pop has improved for 2021 and we feel like we can get a little more air out of an Ollie with the 2021 over past models. Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. Also, the limited stance width options might be tough for riders who prefer a wider stance. The Jones Mountain Twin surprised me with how park-friendly it is. If you want a damper faster version of this board then check out the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. So basically its got about as good carving ability as you can get for the amount of float you get in powder. We didnt lap the roller coaster park but felt this could do a great job with just about any size kicker the average to good rider can tackle. Also the tip and tail seem to chatter a little less than previous models. It is intuitive to know exactly when to load it up and release it so you can get the maximum pop level to launch you. Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. Flex: This is the softest board Jones makes in my opinion. The Jones Mountain Twin is a good example why your measurements are important: Jones specifies the Mtn Twin 157 as 25.4 cm "shaping waist width". It held great in the hard patches we encountered and didnt grab in even the wettest messy snow we had which was most of our time on this. Wood Cores vary in weight so your board could weigh less or more. Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Northwave Decades Id love to see the Standard have 5 x 2 inserts per binding centered and then 2 x 2 set back instead of 1 x 2 set back. How This Review Happened: Weborrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Picks up speed quickly, very stable approaching and very easy/forgiving when landing. Still this is going to be a fun ride in powder. Show all. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-190lbs) Its a forgiving board that applies to a wide variety of riding styles. With this board I'll easily be advanced, boarding on expert by the end of the season. Its nothing like its bigger brother theJones Flagshipor its cousin theYes Big Citybut it does a good job with most speed. 23 in wide 18 -9. Its for those that know how to turn correctly all the time. Turn Initiation: The 2018 Yes Standard is super slow compared to the 2017 Yes Standard I owned. Riders:James Id love to see them make it a little faster edge to edge. Its also not super unforgiving on small to mid jumps either. Pipe: Its a great pipe board. However, I still personally felt out of my element with the wider waist compared to the 2017 model. Edge Hold: The Mid-Bite tech has a really strong grip that doesnt grab too much in softer conditions. Pipe: The Yes Standard is a great Pipe board and I cant wait to get more time in this pipe when we get this board for the season. Final Thoughts on Jones Frontier vs. Mountain Twin Bindings: K2 Indy. Its a fun board to turn, ride fast, hit the pipe and get air with. For me, this would not be fun to ride on a messy bumpy day. Days: 3+ We all love the more pronounced camber upgrade along with the set back of -20mm. 157: 9-10 Width over inserts. As the length increases the width of the YES Standard increases too. Powder: The Jones Twin is not going to have the float that theYes Big Citydoes but it floats very well for a directional twin without a set back. Its got a very diverse personality that can fit a wide range of riders and it does everything very well. The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. cbp ufce authorized equipment list. So it still feels like a hybrid camber ride in harder snow but the spoon tech kicks in while in softer snow making it turn a little easier than before. Nothing exceptional but above average with a good wax job. Turn Initiation:Same middle ground turn initiation that isnt instantaneous but isnt hard either. I think we have about 8-10 friends of The Good Ride try this board. Insoles: Footprint Insole Technology Gamechangers, Footprint Insole Technology Gamechangers Lite, Thats why this has a rating of great instead of excellent. Well at least it did a great job for us. Now this is just a comparison between my board from last year and my board from this year. If you are that kind of rider the extra tech will make it easy. Switch:Felt more like a twin than a directional twin when riding switch. Great board. Days: 4 Choosing between these for a first board. No obligation, but these links & ads support the site. Shreddit - For snowboarders & those who love snowboards. The hybrid camber under the feet makes for a very lively easy to turn board. Its now just for size 10+ riders in the bigger sizes that prefer a narrower stance. Edge Hold: The 2017 Yes Standard grips well but it doesnt grip like the Under Bite or Middle Bite tech. This review has been re-done to reflect how it sits in 2022. This season I am going to try the Yes Pick Your Line. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. Its just another improvement on the existing ride. I find myself passing people left and right on long flat cat tracks. And as advertised, this is an all purpose, all-mountain boardmeaning if you travel for trips and only have one board to bring, this qualifies nicely. Shop for Jones All-Mountain Snowboards at REI - FREE SHIPPING With $50 minimum purchase. So the 2018 review still stands and the changes werent big enough to tax Jones to borrow the board again. It would be fine if they had 62 centered inserts per binding but at 52 it minimizes the max stance width too much. Especially in the tip/tail. It's been a slow start to the snow season, but we had 10 fresh inches of powder, so I put it through the test. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. He's 105 lbs, but the Typo only goes down to 149cm. It felt like a little bit of work to make quick edge to edge turns but you are working harder than you would with the older version. Id say my only complaint with the Mtn Twin is the turn initiation is not that fast in tighter tree situations. It can really handle riders of any level. With a 20.7 stance width you can set it back 2.25 back from center of the board when using the slam back inserts. Thats why it isnt called the Jones Park Twin. If you choose the freestyle stance of 22.8 as well you can get .25 back on board and ride it more like a true twin in powder if that is what you are into. Besides the slight lack of speed, the board was a little too soft for me. Turn Offs/Swipe Left: Need Full Sized Discs To Use the Set Back Inserts. Jibbing: You can jib with the Standard but if thats your thing go with the Jackpot. Its a twin on sidecut. Well not Jimbos but he would love the mid/wide 156w. Pipe: Its just the kind of pipe board a really accomplished rider will like but its not a forgiving easy ride for those that arent that strong. Days: 5+ James, Jimbo, Matt, Peter and a friend of ours named Ren, James, Matt,, Peter, Jimbo and many others. Get the Ghost if you want something more powerful on a carve and more pop and you dont mind it being less forgiving. Switch: So this is called a Directional Volume Twin and that means its a twin on sidecut with a centered stance but the tail has less surface area than the nose.
