In March 1997, Baker became the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara. Bakers grandson, was born in 1930 to the wealthy Baker family and attended Princeton University. Peter Baker added that much of that change can be attributed to the growing influence of evangelicals within the Republican Party.
